After we did such a loverly job of the freakfish v1.0 eccommerce web design we were asked 3 years later to install version 2 of the site with updated eccommerce, graphic and branding. The site is a seemless mxture of traditional html combined with flash. We use flash to lift a page but without being "in your face" with over the top animation.

You can grab the surfers at the top, you can drown the surfers at top, the top flash bit also is "live" in the sense that when its midday in the real world the sun will be high in the freakfish sky (and when its night the moon is out) as the day goes on you can track the sun across the sky. At night they even light a little fire so the surfers can find their way back to the beach.
Those little extras give the site two main things, word of mouth publicity when people find the little extras (ie you dont tell them about it you let the customer be excited by finding it themselves!) and it also provides an ever changing experience every time you visit. This makes a site feel alive and constantly updated.
